For those PJ Harvey fans that, wanted to, but didn’t get to see her show last night at the Beacon, I highly recommend trying for the next one. She was a huge breath of emotions up there, bringing you deeply into her creations, leaving you almost paralyzed and entirely mesmerized. She performed solo, dressed in a gown like a new-age Victorian beauty. She moved the audience with tracks from a number of albums, some magically reinvented like Down by the Water and others masterfully graced by time as well as one little secret that she pulled from her pocket called Nina in Ecstasy. This song, brief but sweetly soft, accompanied by a type of synthesizer, came out as sad hymn of a lost girl wondering about her mama. Her voice just pierced through the venue in an almost haunting way and I believe her choice to play solo contributed to that effect. There is no other like PJ.
